The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is a standardised test that serves as a common evaluation tool for graduate school admissions, particularly in the United States and several other key study destinations globally.

It is designed to assess a candidate’s readiness for advanced academic work and is used by admissions committees alongside other application materials, such as transcripts, letters of recommendation, and personal statements.

The GRE is divided into three main sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The Analytical Writing section evaluates the test taker’s ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively. Verbal Reasoning assesses the ability to analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information. Quantitative Reasoning measures the ability to understand, interpret, and analyse quantitative information and solve problems using mathematical concepts.

The GRE is administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service) and can be taken year-round at designated test centres worldwide. Test takers can choose to send their scores to up to four graduate programs or business schools at no additional cost. Overall, a strong GRE score can significantly enhance a candidate’s application and increase their chances of gaining admission to their desired graduate program.
